Decision-ready geospatial intelligence for environmental systems.

My work asks how Earth observation, geospatial information and spatial decision science can become actionable intelligence for water, environmental and infrastructure systems under climatic and societal pressure.

Across coastal change, flood risk, environmental planning and climate adaptation, I work with spatial evidence in ways that remain interpretable for real planning questions. This means connecting satellite observations and GIS analysis with field evidence, socio-spatial conditions, modelling assumptions and uncertainty.

I distinguish between established contributions and forward research directions. The themes below therefore draw on completed and ongoing work while setting out the programme I am developing.

Earth Observation and GeoAI

My research foundation includes remote sensing of shoreline and geomorphological change, coastal environmental assessment and spatial analysis. I am extending this work toward Earth-observation approaches that combine satellite, ground and contextual data for hydroclimatic and environmental intelligence.

This line of work connects GIS-MCDA, vulnerability assessment and spatial prioritisation. It includes work on coastal classification, flood vulnerability and environmental planning, and it informs current research on water-resource and flood-risk decisions.

Climate-Resilient Urban, Coastal and Infrastructure Systems

My research considers how hydroclimatic hazards, land-use change, socio-spatial vulnerability and infrastructure exposure interact over time. It has contributed to studies of coastal planning, flood adaptation and participatory scenario-downscaling.

From evidence to action

A research programme that connects systems, people and decisions.

The longer-term goal is to move beyond static susceptibility or vulnerability maps toward scenario-based geospatial frameworks that can examine alternative adaptation and infrastructure strategies. GeoAI and machine learning are useful only when they add analytical value and retain interpretability, validation and physical consistency.
